‘Who Is the Real President?’: Two Viral Videos Sum Up Biden’s Humiliating Weekend

Televised comments over the weekend by two prominent Democrats — talk show host Charlamagne tha God and Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia — have exposed President Joe Biden’s weakness.

The emperor has no clothes.

Friday: During an interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, Charlamagne tha God asked, “So, who is the real president of this country?”

“Is it Joe Manchin or Joe Biden?” pressed the host of Comedy Central’s “Tha God’s Honest Truth,” referring to the conservative Democratic senator’s decisive power in the 50-50 Senate

  • After Harris’ spokeswoman unsuccessfully tried to end the interview, the veep insisted Biden is in charge and chastised Charlamagne tha God for “talking like a Republican.”
  • Harris went on to list what she saw as the White House’s achievements while acknowledging “the frustration” that more has not gotten done.

Sunday: Manchin made a surprise announcement on “Fox News Sunday” that after months of negotiations, he would not support the Build Back Better Act, Biden’s signature social spending and climate package.

“If I can’t go home and explain it to the people of West Virginia, I can’t vote for it,” said Manchin, whose state went for former President Donald Trump by 40 points in 2020. “And I cannot vote to continue with this piece of legislation. I just can’t.”

  • “You’re done? This is — is this a no?” asked stand-in host Bret Baier, looking stunned.
  • “This is a no on this legislation,” Manchin confirmed.

Democrats in Washington responded angrily to Manchin’s betrayal, with White House press secretary Jen Psaki all but accusing the senator of lying.

  • Psaki and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer nonetheless vowed to push ahead with a version of the Build Back Better Act when Congress reconvenes after Christmas.
  • But Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and other progressives in Congress suggested they had lost faith in Biden’s approach to governing.
  • “It’s really about time that we start to get serious about governing,” Ocasio-Cortez told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Monday. “As well as leaning on the president’s executive authority, which I do not believe has been used to the fullest extent that the American people deserve.”

In the media, meanwhile, liberals mourned and conservatives celebrated the death of the Build Back Better Act and the stark revelation of Biden’s political limitations.

  • Left-wing streaming host Cenk Uygur was among a number of journalists who recalled Charlamagne tha God’s question about the Biden-Manchin power dynamic.
  • He called the query “perfect” in retrospect.

Everyday Americans, for their part, have repeatedly told pollsters they disapprove of Biden’s progressive agenda, and want him to focus on different issues, like inflation and the border.
