Here Are All the Celebrities Leaving Twitter Following Elon Musk’s Takeover of the Company
A number of celebrities have quit Twitter in protest of its takeover by tech billionaire and free-speech advocate Elon Musk, but other liberals have pledged to stay and #resist.
SO WHAT
Leaving Twitter is the new moving to Canada.
THE CELEBS
Since taking over Twitter on Thursday, Musk has reportedly disbanded the company’s board of directors, initiated plans to layoff 25% of the company’s workforce and will begin charging verified users $20 a month to keep their blue checkmarks.
- In a statement to advertisers last week Musk promised not to turn the platform into a “free-for-all hellscape,” but a wave of liberal celebrities aren’t sticking around to find out whether he’ll make good on his pledge.
Stephen King, best-selling horror author
$20 a month to keep my blue check? Fuck that, they should pay me. If that gets instituted, I’m gone like Enron.

Shonda Rimes, creator of “Grey’s Anatomy”
Not hanging around for whatever Elon has planned. Bye.

Ken Olin, TV actor and director
Hey all –
I’m out of here. No judgement.
Let’s keep the faith.
Let’s protect our democracy.
Let’s try to be kinder.
Let’s try to save the planet.
Let’s try to be more generous.
Let’s look to find peace in the world.

Sara Bareilles, singer-songwriter
Welp. It’s been fun Twitter. I’m out. See you on other platforms, peeps. Sorry, this one’s just not for me. ❤️🙏🏼

Josh Gad, the voice of Olaf the snowman in Disney’s “Frozen” film franchise
Large exodus happening on this platform. Not sure if I stay or not. Leaning toward staying, but if today is a sign of things to come, not sure what the point is. Freedom of speech is great. Hate speech intended to incite harm, (with no consequences) ain’t what I signed up for.

Jameela Jamil, actress
One good thing about Elon buying twitter is that I will *FINALLY* leave and stop being a complete menace to society on here. So it’s win win for you all really. 😂

After quitting Twitter in April amid Musk’s announcement that he was planning to takeover the company, Jamil returned in July when the deal appeared to have fallen through.
ON THE OTHER HAND
Some celebrities, like actor and filmmaker Rob Reiner, have urged fellow liberals to remain on Twitter in the name of “democracy.”
For those who are fighting to preserve our Constitutional Democracy, now is not the time to leave Twitter. Now is the time to VOTE BLUE!
