QUOTE OF THE DAY: Stop Picking on POTUS

The Atlantic writer Tom Nichols defended President Biden from critics who are unhappy with the state of the country.

THE QUOTE

In the Tuesday article, headlined “Leave Joe Biden Alone,” Nichols gave the president high marks for his job performance.

  • “I think he’s done a pretty good job, especially given the fact that he’s dealing with a pandemic, revelations about an attempted American coup d’état, and an economic slowdown over which he had no control,” argued Nichols, an international affairs expert.
  • Nichols dismissed Republican haters as having “fallen into a vortex of nihilism and desperation,” and suggested Democratic skeptics, like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., were ungrateful.
  • Finally, Nichols settled on the real problem: the American people.
  • “My suspicion is that the full weight of our foreign and domestic crises has not broken through the self-absorption and solipsism of not only our political parties but the American public,” he wrote. “We are just not capable of understanding that at home, we are inches away from the meltdown of our constitutional system of government, and abroad, we are one errant cruise missile away from a nuclear crisis.”

SAME ENERGY

Nichols joined fellow media elites like Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin in accusing Americans of ingratitude for the blessing of the Biden presidency.
