Liberals Still Holding Out Hope Roe Won’t Get Overturned Just Got a Dagger to the Heart

The Supreme Court’s majority vote to overturn Roe v. Wade remains unchanged, three months after Justice Samuel Alito’s leaked draft opinion was written, according to a new report.

The left’s pressure campaign against the Supreme doesn’t appear to be working – so far.

THE REPORT

The five justices who voted to rollback Roe are – as of last week at least – still committed to the decision, The Washington Post reported Saturday, citing three conservatives close to the court.

  • Following Politico’s publication last Monday of Alito’s majority draft, dated Feb. 10, one of the central questions on political observers’ minds has been whether the justices’ opinions have shifted in the months since the draft was penned.
  • Court insiders say Chief Justice John Roberts has failed so far in his efforts to get the court’s conservative wing – which includes Alito, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett – to strike a compromise that would keep Roe intact, the Post reported.

In a statement reacting to the leak of the Alito draft, Roberts emphasized that the court had not yet completed its deliberations.

  • “To the extent this betrayal of the confidences of the Court was intended to undermine the integrity of our operations, it will not succeed,” he said last week.
  • “The work of the Court will not be affected in any way.”

IT’S GETTING UGLY

“Pro-choice” advocates’ fierce opposition to the Alito draft apparently turned violent over the weekend with the vandalization of an anti-abortion organization’s office in Madison, Wisconsin.

Madison police are investigating a fire at the Wisconsin Family Action office, where a molotov cocktail was found, as an act of arson.

  • “While this attack was directly provoked by the leaked draft opinion from the U.S. Supreme Court in the Dobbs case earlier this week, this has far broader implication,” Julaine Appling, the president of Wisconsin Family Action, said in a statement.
  • “Apparently, the tolerance that the left demands is truly a one-way street. Violence has become their answer to everything. This is what happens when leadership is missing or when leadership implies that violence is OK,” Appling added.

Rewire News reporter Caroline Reilly sparked widespread outrage on Twitter Monday after tweeting out a message calling for more attacks on anti-abortion groups.
