Liberals Are Realizing They Ruined Their Two Favorite ‘Pro-Choice’ Slogans

“Pro-choice” activists, up in arms over the apparent impending demise of Roe v. Wade, have reached for their go-to rhetoric only to find the words have lost much of their firepower.

SO WHAT

It turns out you can’t be woke and liberal at the same time.

THE SLOGANS

Two classic pro-choice slogans have rung out in the streets and in the media this week following the revelation that the Supreme Court initially voted to overturn Roe, the landmark abortion rights decision:

“MY BODY, MY CHOICE”: Protesters from New York City to Seattle chanted versions of the libertarian-style rallying cry while Democratic leaders like Vice President Kamala Harris denounced Republicans for trying to control women’s bodies.

“NO UTERUS, NO OPINION”: Other pro-life advocates rejected abortion restrictions in even more explicitly feminist terms, with Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., the head of the House progressive caucus, saying it’s unacceptable that “largely men in positions of power” are determining abortion law.

OK, BUT

In response, conservative commentators called out the left for seemingly abandoning its cherished woke values of yesterday to champion “the current thing.”

  • “You can’t say ‘no uterus, no opinion’ anymore. You gave that up when you said trans women are women,” tweeted Seth Dillon, the CEO of the Babylon Bee and a critic of the ascendant gender ideology that has seen the White House swap the word “mothers” for “birthing people.”
  • “I’m pretty sure we threw the whole ‘my body, my choice’ thing out the window when we banned people who didn’t get a shot from participating in society,” YouTuber Blaire White tweeted, referring to COVID-19 vaccine mandates pushed by Democrats.

Some woke liberals have agreed.

  • “Just a gentle reminder that abortion and reproductive rights do not only affect cis women,” activist Anita Sarkeesian said in a tweet.

MEANWHILE

“The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg, an advocate of vaccine mandates, captured some of the left’s apparent confusion when, in an on-air rant, she complained that “everybody wants to tell me what to do” when it comes to wearing a mask and having an abortion.
