QUOTE OF THE DAY: Disney Says the Seven Dwarfs Are ‘Canceled’
Disney said Tuesday that its classic cartoon film “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” is harmful to real-life dwarfs — and its forthcoming live-action remake will take a “different approach.”
THE QUOTE
“To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community,” a spokesperson for Disney told The Hollywood Reporter. “We look forward to sharing more as the film heads into production after a lengthy development period.”
- The statement came a day after dwarf actor Peter Dinklage accused Disney of betraying its progressive image by “still making that f*cking backwards story of seven dwarfs living in a cave together.”
- According to The Wrap, Disney is looking to cast voice actors to play “magical creatures” in place of the dwarves from the 1937 film and the 19th century fairytale.
