Quote of the Day: Hurtful Christmas Sweaters
Psychotherapist Antoinette D’Orazio weighed in on a new tool of oppression: Target’s Christmas sweaters.
WHAT HAPPENED
The retail giant added a holiday sweater that read “OCD OBSESSIVE CHRISTMAS DISORDER” to its 2015 holiday collection, sparking outrage on social media from those who felt it trivialized obsessive-compulsive disorder.
- “[When] understanding the severity of OCD as mental illness, one might better understand the distaste that sufferers and significant others in their lives might have for this particular sweater,” D’Orazio told TODAY.com.
Target saw things differently and refused to pull the item from its collection.
FLASH FORWARD
While Target no longer appears to carry the garment online, it is readily available second-hand from $3.99.
