Peter Dinklage, a movie star and dwarf, denounced the “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” fairytale Monday as a “f*cking backwards story.”
During an appearance on Monday’s episode of Marc Maron’s “WTF” podcast, Dinklage said there was “a lot of hypocrisy going on” with Disney’s decision to remake the cartoon classic as a live-action movie.
- “They were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White,” Dinklage said, referring to recent reports about the casting decision. “But you’re still telling the story of ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.’ Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me. You’re progressive in one way, but you’re still making that f*cking backwards story of seven dwarfs living in a cave together.”
- Later in the podcast, Dinklage told Maron he would be “all in” for a retelling of ‘Snow White’ with a “f*cked-up, cool, progressive spin.”
Jason Acuña, better known as “Wee Man” from “Jackass,” evinced a less self-serious understanding of dwarf identity in a New York Times Magazine feature story about him published Monday — though he had already made his attitude quite clear.
