Media outlets and pundits have faced backlash for amplifying 13-year-old Caroline Cruz’s political disagreements with her father, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas.
Americans of all stripes seem to agree that politicians’ kids shouldn’t be fodder for news headlines.
The Dallas Morning News reported Thursday on a video posted to TikTok last week by Caroline, in which she said, “I really disagree with most of [Cruz’s] views.”

- “BOOM! Ted Cruz‘s own daughter bashes him on TikTok,” said anti-Trump Twitter influencer Chip Franklin, in a tweet that earned more than 20,000 likes.
- “Who else appreciates Ted Cruz‘s daughter for having the courage to say she disagrees with her father on most of his views?” tweeted Democratic activist Jon Cooper.
- Caroline Cruz’s TikTok account has since been made private, Mediate reported.
Conservative pundits accused the left of exploiting a child, with TheBlaze’s Jessica O’Donnell calling the media “so gross.”
Ted Cruz’s daughters are 10 and 13. we’re getting more “dirt” from minors than the president’s 51 year-old son. Our media is so gross https://t.co/xLqWbMnRbL

Some liberals, including former Obama White House photographer Pete Souza, agreed.
I detest Ted Cruz but his 13-year-old daughter’s views should be off limits for media coverage. https://t.co/rbpyDqqtMe
