THE 4PM POLL: Do You Think Women Should Be Drafted into the Military in the Name of Equality?
The House will vote this week on a measure that would require women to register for a future military draft.
- The amendment to the House Defense Bill, introduced by Rep. Chrissy Houlahan, D-Pa., would change the language in the law requiring Americans to register for Selective Service from “male citizen” to “citizen.”
- “By reforming the Selective Service to be gender-neutral based registration, we draw on the talents of our entire nation in the time of a national emergency,” Houlahan said earlier this month. “The current male-only registration sends a message to women not only that they are not vital to the defense of the country, but also that they are not expected to participate in defending it.”
