You come at the king, you best not miss.
THE NUMBERS
The Morning Consult/Politico survey, released Wednesday, found that more Republicans want Trump to seek reelection in 2024 than Democrats want President Joe Biden to run again.
“We won the first time, and the second time we won by even more,” Trump said Sunday at an event in Florida, once again teasing a presidential run.
- “And it looks like we might have to think about, very strongly, a third time.”
THE NAYSAYERS
A number of conservative commentators suggested this week that Trump’s power is waning, citing lackluster turnout at the Florida event and “MAGA” setbacks ahead of the midterms.
- Meanwhile, Trump has faced down a congressional inquiry and a surge of critical media coverage about his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol attack.
- The Daily Beast’s Matt Lewis asked in his Sunday column whether the former president is “starting to lose his grip on the Republican Party?”
GOP voters don’t seem to think so.
