These Might Be Trump’s Most Brutal Words About Fox News Yet

Former President Donald Trump over the weekend accused Fox News of playing “right into the hand of the enemy” by praising “radical left maniac” Bill Maher, host of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher.”

SO WHAT

Can Trump’s turbulent relationship with the network ever be repaired?

WHAT HAPPENED

“I’m sure [Maher] laughs like hell at how stupid they are. They’re kissing the ass of the enemy, and in that case, his ass is not particularly pretty!” Trump quipped during a speech Saturday in Memphis, Tennessee.

The former president also took aim at Maher’s “modest television ratings.”

  • “As soon as he says something that’s a little bit modest, or temperate, Fox and others put him on to explain, ‘Oh look, Bill Maher! A Lefty! Bill Maher is saying wonderful things,'” he said.
  • On multiple occasions, Fox News has positively highlighted Maher’s criticisms of the media and woke ideology.
  • Maher, a frequent Trump critic who said recently he believes Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is a preferable alternative to the former president, tweeted Sunday that Fox News refuses to book him.

FROM “FOX & FRIENDS” TO ENEMIES

While Trump once said of Fox News, “Thank God we have them on our side,” his relationship with the network has soured greatly in recent years.

  • “Fox News is no longer Fox News,” Trump said in a Truth Social post last month, when he accused the network of refusing to promote “2000 Mules,” the 2020 election fraud documentary.
  • In the wake of the 2020 election, which Trump claimed was “rigged” against him, the former president repeatedly lambasted the network for not endorsing his unproven claims of widespread voter fraud.
  • And there were even times during his presidential tenure when Trump vented his ire at Fox.

“Fox News is not watchable during weekend afternoons. It is worse than Fake News @CNN,” he tweeted in August 2020.
