More than half of Democratic voters say “woke politicians” are the main cause of increased crime, according to a new Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll.
Crime looks like a major liability for Democrats ahead of the 2022 elections.
The Democratic majority agrees with nearly two-thirds of registered voters who attribute elevated rates of violent and property crime in the U.S. to woke politicians, the poll of registered voters last week found.
Also, 66% of voters say crime is getting worse, and 68% say the issue will be “very important” to how they vote in next terms midterm elections for Congress, per the poll.
- Only the economy ranked as more important.
- According to a Morning Consult/Politico poll conducted earlier this month, 44% of voters say they trust Republicans more than Democrats on crime, versus 37% who say the reverse.
- Tough-on-crime Republican candidates have looked unusually competitive in “deep blue” states, including the governor’s races in Oregon and New York, renewing talk of a “red wave.”
- “[Portlanders] want to be safe in their own yards. They want to be safe when their kids walk to school,” GOP gubernatorial candidate Christine Drazan said on Fox News last month, by way of explaining her dark horse campaign. “This is not partisan.”
